Latest News – Arrested in Land Scam
Chhavi Ranjan, a senior IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 4 May 2023 for his alleged involvement in illegal land deals during his tenure as the deputy commissioner of Ranchi. He is accused of facilitating the purchase and sale of land belonging to the Indian Army by a group of land mafias, middlemen, and bureaucrats using forged documents dating back to 1932.
The ED has registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and has interrogated Ranjan for several hours before producing him before a special PMLA court. The court has remanded him to six-day ED custody till May 12. Ranjan, who joined the IAS in 2011, has served in various districts and departments of Jharkhand, including Koderma, Dhanbad, Seraikela Kharsawan, and the state agriculture department.

He is also facing allegations of illegal tree cutting and misappropriation of funds meant for rural development schemes. Ranjan is the second IAS officer from Jharkhand to be arrested by the ED in recent times. Earlier, Pooja Singhal, another IAS officer, was arrested for her role in a money laundering case related to MGNREGA funds in the Khunti district.
