Vangaveeti Radha Krishna is an Indian politician and a leader of the YSR Congress Party. He is the son of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, a popular politician from Vijayawada who was assassinated in 1988. Radha Krishna was born on 26 June 1974 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
He has four elder brothers: Vangaveeti Koteswara Rao, Vangaveeti Venkata Narayana Rao, Vangaveeti Sobhana Chalapathi Rao, and Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao.
Early Life and Education
Radha Krishna grew up in a turbulent political environment as his father and elder brother were involved in several conflicts and murders with their rivals from the Devineni family and the Communist Party of India.
He witnessed the murder of his father when he was 14 years old and vowed to take revenge. He completed his schooling at St. John’s English Medium School in Vijayawada and graduated from Siddhartha College of Arts and Science. He also obtained a law degree from Andhra University.
Career
Radha Krishna entered politics in 1994 as a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which was led by N. T. Rama Rao, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and a supporter of his father. He contested the assembly elections from Vijayawada East constituency, which was earlier represented by his father, but lost to Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru), his father’s arch-rival. He contested again in 1999 and 2004 but lost both times to Devineni Nehru.
In 2009, he switched to the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), which was founded by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi. He contested the assembly elections from the Vijayawada Central constituency but lost to Malladi Vishnu of the Congress Party. In 2011, he joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which was formed by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the son of former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He contested the assembly elections from Vijayawada West constituency in 2014 but lost to Jaleel Khan of the TDP.
In 2019, he contested the assembly elections from the Vijayawada East constituency for the fourth time and won with a margin of over 25,000 votes against Bonda Umamaheswara Rao of the TDP. He became a minister in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cabinet and was given a portfolio of water resources.
